About the event

About the event

Join SUP & Summit on a memorable guided walk to the glorious summits of Fleetwith Pike and Haystacks, nestled in the

Western area of the Lake District, looking down the Buttermere valley. These fells may not be the highest in the Lakes, measuring 648m and 597m, but what they lack in height, they make up in character and definitely should be on your 'must climb' list!  Haystacks was the late Alfred Wainwright's favourite lakeland fell and also his resting place, his ashes scattered aside Innominate Tarn, as were his wishes.

We will meet at a small parking area (small charge required) at Gatesgarth Farm, located at the foot of Fleetwith Pike. We will initially traverse around the foot of Fleetwith Pike, following the beck. We will then start to gain height, encountering a waterfall and the much photographed Dubs Hut, a former mining hut and now a bothy. We will then make our way to the summit where sensational views down the valley and across Buttermere and Crummock Water await us.

Once refuelled and we have taken all the photos we need, we will retrace our steps, making our way back towards the bothy and start our journey to Haystacks. We will have great views for company as we make our way towards Innominate Tarn, where we will pay our respects to Alfred Wainwright and make our way to the summit.  We will descend via Scarth Gap Pass and make our way back to the car, hopefully in time for an ice cream!
