About the event

Join us on one of our 6 mile-ish taster events in the stunning area of Denbighshire, an area bursting with a wide variety of natural wonders and boasting five castles and a number of iron age hillforts.  In particular, the county is home to the Clwydian Range (Moel Famau the highest point) and Dee Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, providing the perfect environment for a host of outdoor activities, particularly hillwalking. We therefore have a lot of route options which may include the summits of Moel Famau, Moel Gyw, Penycloddiau and Moel Arthur.

Whilst people may say "oh, I've been up Moel Famau a load of times", they have often used the most direct and busiest routes. SUP & Summit plan routes which avoid the crowds and provide a more 'off the beaten track' experience, on paths you are unlikely to have used before - that's what our clients have told us anyway!

Our hillwalking taster event adverts do not stipulate the route that is planned for that day as route choice is determined by who signs up - this means that clients have the opportunity to do a new route, rather than duplicating a previous one. They will all be within 12 miles of Loggerheads Country Park - as far as Bodfari or Llandegla.

About the pace and terrain

We will walk at a pace that suits the group - usually 3-4km per hour. The main worry that clients have before coming on a taster event is that they will hold the group up - this is never the case - and you will be encouraged and supported along the way. If you are someone who wants to race around the route, then these events aren't for you!

The terrain is always varied, replicating what you would find in a mountain environment - from open space, road, grass and woodland - and undulating - with some steepish sections but, we will take on whatever confronts us in our own time, taking in the views.  Thick mud, big puddles and scree may be underfoot in places on the ascent and descent, requiring extra care and therefore sturdy footwear, such as worn-in walking boots which cover the ankle, are essential.
